Weekly Intention and Meal Plan ~ February 6

Happy Monday! Setting weekly intentions is a simple, effective way to find your focus and keep you in that driven, motivated mindset. I find, that writing intentions down makes it all the more easier to get things done and to really live an intentional life. Whatever is on your to do list, I believe it’s the little choices you make each day that will get you that step closer to developing the true YOU!
My Weekly Intention:  This week I want to work on breaking negative cycles. I've been feeling so negative lately with everything that is happening in the world. It's so easy to become entrapped in a cycle of negativity, especially when you are surrounded with so much of it.  It's every where- in the news, on social media, in the workplace... Negative thoughts and energy are contagious and propagate themselves.  But, any cycle of negativity can be transformed into a positive one by making the choice to do so and then intently focusing on it. I think the key to breaking any cycle of negativity is to shift your state of mind and then return to what is simple that I know can alter my perspective...spending time in nature, talking with friends and loved ones, finding things to laugh about and smiling at everyone I see.


This week I will Nurture:
My body.  This week I have scheduled exercise into my day. I need to be physical. My body is craving a good workout and I am setting time aside each day to exercise and I will not feel guilty about it. 
My family.  Take time every day to hug the girls and John. Text my family during the day to let them know that I'm thinking about them. Mail a package to Andrew at school. Attend family yoga on Sunday.
My home. Paint the kitchen this week. I've finally chosen a color~ Elmira White by Benjamin Moore.
My Soul.  Continue with my gratitude journal. Continue reading The Daybook of Comfort and Joy every morning.  
My Creativity.  This month I'm going to continue with soldering practice but will be focusing on the projects in  a class by Stephanie Lee's called, Hand Forged: Metal and Torch Soldering Jewelry Class. 
My Mind.  I will stop multi-taskng. I will do one thing at a time so that I can devote my entire awareness to that one task. When I am finished with one task, I will move onto the next. I hope this will help build concentration and focus. 
My Work. I will prepare to teach a new professional development class about teaching vocabulary. I will also complete multi-sensory projects and post them in my TPT shop.

This Week I want to remember:

Chicken, roasted vegetables and quinoa

Movie Night~ The Secret Life of Pets


So most Friday nights we have family movie night. I usually make a dinner and a treat that is related to the theme of the movie. Friday's movie night was The Secret Life of Pets. I thought it was pretty funny and my husband, who usually falls asleep as soon as he sits down, managed to stay awake for most of it. In fact, when he woke up he was disappointed that he had fallen asleep because he had been enjoying it...

The Meal: 

 We had Ribs in the oven {because ya know- gnawing on bones, get it?}
Oven roasted potatoes- that kind of looked like Kibble to me
Broccoli


Snack:

For a snack, the girls and I made Pupcakes. 



 I love that my kids are 20, 17 and 13 and they still look forward to movie nights. So much fun!
I've learned to keep it simple and just enjoy it!

Nurture Creativity~Soldering Practice


One of my goals for the new year was to nurture my creativity by implementing daily creative practice. While the plan was to do something creative every day, I found that once again daily life got in the way. I did, however, watch all of the videos in Terri Brush's Basic Soldering class and learned some great new techniques. I managed to make some cute glass pendants, chains, and connectors. While I didn't actually physically practice soldering every day, I found that my mind was racing with ideas and I sketched out many of those in my notebook. So, in actuality, I was creating every day, which felt amazing!

Here's what I learned through creative practice this month:

1. Creative practice of any sort takes courage. Courage to use new materials. Courage to fail. Courage to keep trying. Courage to share your work with others. Courage to find yourself important enough to carve out time for practice and believe you are worth it.

2. Soldering requires you to be very intentional and present. You can't let your mind wander when you are holding a torch or liquid metal in your hands.

3. Carving out time for creativity daily is hard to do but so rewarding. Most nights I stumbled downstairs to the basement to my little art corner,  when what I really wanted to veg out in front of the tv with my husband... but when I sat down I felt so awake and inspired and that is a wonderful way to end the day.

A Book A Week ~ This is Your Life, Harriet Chance

"While the days unfold, one after the other, and the numbers all move in one direction, our lives are not linear, Harriet. We are the sum of moments and reflections, actions and decisions, triumphs, failures, and yearnings, all of it held together, inexplicably, miraculously, really, by memory and association.
There is something charming about this book. Once I got into it, I had a hard time putting it down. The book twists and turns, secrets are revealed and unexpected events leave you pondering how we all just muddle along, trying to do our best, and in the end we just screw everything up! It was a charming story that makes you consider what your own, "This is Your Life," show might look like.
I am so happy I picked this one up at the library.

A Book A Week ~ The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving


I found this book when I was searching results in Overdrive and I'm happy I did. The book started out beautifully, with a somber and dauntless premise. However, the unrelenting misogyny got to me at times and I found myself disliking the character and the author. Somewhere near the middle of the book the 'women-as-objects' comments lessened, so I finished it. It was a good read but not my favorite.

Weekly Intention and Meal Plan~ January 23



Happy Monday! Setting weekly intentions is a simple, effective way to find your focus and keep you in that driven, motivated mindset. I find, that writing intentions down makes it all the more easier to get things done and to really live an intentional life. Whatever is on your to do list, I believe it’s the little choices you make each day that will get you that step closer to developing the true YOU!
My Weekly Intention:  This week I want to really work on cultivating focus and discipline. There are some things that I've been wanting to do but I've been procrastinating, putting them aside waiting for just the right moment. I get caught up in planning and then I no longer have the time nor energy to make things happen. Taking the first step, however small or insignificant it may seem, will hopefully lead me to the next. Knowing that I set out to improve myself both physically and mentally in a mindful and healthful manner, I may find that one step leads to another. 


    This week I will Nurture:
    My body.  Make time to exercise! I've been averaging 13,000 steps a day but I want to attend some classes at the gym this week.
    My family.  I will take Chloe to tour a couple of colleges that she has been accepted to. Begin assembling a care package for Andrew.
    My home. Finally add some shelves to organize the utility closet and begin painting the kitchen. 
    My Soul.  Begin a Gratitude Journal.
    My Creativity.  Continue to practice soldering. I will make more glass & shadowbox pendants from Terri Brush's Basic Soldering Class. I'll also try my hand at making chains, clasps, beading & crimping.
    My Mind.  Finish reading the book, "All the Pretty Things," by Edie Wadsworth.
    My Work. I'm presenting at the faculty meeting today on the new population of students that have been settling in our area. I want to do a good job and teach my colleagues so that they don't feel as if I've wasted their time and I want them to walk away having learned something new.

    This Week I want to remember:
    • Be gentle with yourself. You're doing the best that you can. Your best is good enough!

    Lindsey has a soccer tournament all day so we will be eating sandwiches with the team.

    A Book A Week~The Art Forger






    This week I read TheArt Forger . I actually stumbled across the book while I was doing an online library search on books about mixed media art.  I'm happy that I found it because I actually ended up enjoying the book. It was an intriguing mystery sprinkled with art, romance, and history. It was a fun, interesting read and I was completely satisfied with the book.

    Weekly Intention and Meal Plan~ Week 2{A couple of days late}


    Setting weekly intentions is a simple, effective way to find your focus and keep you in that driven, motivated mindset. I find, that writing intentions down makes it all the more easier to get things done and to really live an intentional life. Whatever is on your to do list, I believe it’s the little choices you make each day that will get you that step closer to developing the true YOU!
    My Weekly Intention:  My sister was hospitalized last week Thursday and is still in the Intensive Care Unit.  Her body is really struggling to heal. Looking at her, I realize just how fragile our lives are and how much I take for granted. This week I want to really focus on all of the amazing things that my body does for me and I want to love it right back. I want to go to sleep earlier and make healthy lunches to bring to work everyday. I want to fill my lungs with fresh air and stretch the stress out of my muscles in a yoga class.  I want to silence that persistent inner voice that is always pointing out to me, all of my faults and flaws...It is so tiresome... so I will make a conscious intention to recognize when I have a negative thought about myself and to counter it with a truth. I will be kinder to myself. I will nurture my body, mind and my soul. 
    This week I will Nurture:
    My body.  I will prep healthy meals, drink lots of water infused with lemon essential oil and go to bed by 10:30 each night. 
    My family.  This week I will plan movie night and actually sit down and be present! Plus, I will hug everyone every day and let them know they are loved. 
    My home. I'm working through week 1 {the kitchen} of the 14 Week Organizing Challenge with 'A Bowl Full Of Lemons'.   
    My Soul. Take time every day to read Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy and to journal. 
    My Creativity.  Practice soldering. This week I will make more glass & shadowbox pendants from Terri Brush's Basic Soldering Class. I'll also try my hand at making chains, clasps, beading & crimping.
    My Mind.  Inspired by all of the cool puzzles that @karenika on instagram has been posting, I will finally open the box and begin working on a puzzle that I bought last year.
    My Work. Finally post that Gingerbread Unit on TPT.

    This Week I want to remember:
    • Be gentle with yourself. You're doing the best that you can. Your best is good enough!

    We are taking our son back to college so we will take him out for dinner.

    Hearty Vegetable Soup
    Crusty bread

    Plucky Girl Plans and Projects for 2017

    For 2017 I would like to come up with a plan for this blog. Right now I just randomly write something when I have time.  In 2017, I'd like to make my posting more intentional and find a system that works for me. I want to some how tie the posts to my OLW {Nurture}.  I think a schedule will help to keep me focused but not sure if it will feel too constrictive...For now this is what I'm going to try:

    Weekly Posts: 


    Monday: Meal planning, Weekly Intentions & 'Body Check'.  This works for me. I like setting my weekly intentions and meal planning helps me to stay on track with nourishing my body.

    Tuesday:  Teach them. All things learning related. Maybe what my kids need to learn before they leave home or what my students need to learn before they leave my classroom or what parents need to learn to help their children at home...Not sure what it will look like but will definitely be linked to teaching & learning.

    Wednesday: What I am reading & What we are reading & creating in our Plucky Girl Book Club{ a book club for teens & tweens focusing on books for smart, brave, confident girls}

    Thursday: I've always made a list of monthly creative projects/ classes that I am working on and I think that I will post my progress here...along with some tutorials {maybe}.

    Friday: Friends & Family ~ focusing on nurturing relationships with friends and/or family: movie & game nights, outings & date nights

    Saturday: Projects for the home. I'm not a talented decorator but I really want to create cozy, clutter-free living spaces for my family so this will be my attempt at doing so.

    Sunday: Weekly reflection / Project Life(?)

    I'm not sure how this is going to work out but I am going to try! I'm excited to learn, practice and share with you this year! Here's to a productive 2017!

    2017 One Little Word ~Nurture




    This year I am participating in Ali Edward's One Little Word class where you choose one word to focus on throughout the year.  I chose the word Nurture. It seems like a gentle, intentional word that beckons me to slow down, simplify and really choose to focus on what is most important in my life.

    This year I will nurture:


    • My relationships. The relationships with my husband, kids and friends. Looking forward to finding ways to add more fun to our time together.
    • My body. It's been a long time since I've made my health a priority. I want to exercise and fill my body with the nutrients that it needs in order to be healthy. I want to feel strong again!
    • My home. I like my home but it doesn't feel like 'me'. I want to mindfully create cozy living spaces that reflect who I am as well as nurture the people I love the most in this world. 
    • My mind. Take the time to read and learn new things. 
    • My soul. I'd like to carve out time to do what brings more peace and happiness into my life-making more time for art, cooking, photography, meditating and writing.
    • My work.  Develop engaging lessons for my students{nurturing their minds, too} and share them with other teachers.  Mentor new teachers and teach more professional development courses.

    I'm sure there are others that will come up as the year/ class progresses. I'm nervous but also very excited about how this class will impact my life! Looking forward to a great year!
